Is a Campervan Essential?

A campervan is a large suitcase with ample storage capacity, but it's also more convenient than a suitcase because its large wheels allow for smooth travel on sand, gravel, and dirt roads. Campervans are foldable, making them easy to pack. Besides transporting supplies, a campervan can also be used as a dining table with a cover. If you're into camping, a campervan is a must-buy. If you don't have any camping needs, then there's no need to buy one.

Is a campervan a waste of money?

I don't think a campervan is a waste of money. First of all, I'm a camping enthusiast and take my family camping several times a year to connect with nature. The camping spot I choose may not be accessible by car, so it's much easier to lug the tent, food, water, and other essentials inside the campervan.

How to Choose a Campervan?

When buying a camping and dining van, consider several factors: brand, capacity, material, load capacity, wheels, price, and storage convenience.

1. Brand

There are many brands of camper vans, but few are well-known or have high sales. Brands like Explorer, Mogul, JD.com, Beihuan, Makoto, Primitive, Camel, Peak, Aishanke, Muxing, and NatureHike are all good choices.

2. Capacity

Common camper van sizes include 70L, 100-150L, and 150-200L. I personally find 100L to be sufficient. For our family of five, our camper van can accommodate not only our essentials but also our two small children. For special needs, you can choose a larger or smaller camper van.

3. Load Capacity

Whether a camper van is inexpensive or expensive, it generally has a load capacity of over 100kg, so this isn't a problem. Every time we go out, even with our camper van full of stuff and our two children, it still weighs less than 100kg.

4. Materials

Common camper van frame materials include plastic-coated frames and metal frames. Most campers use plastic-coated frames, while a few more expensive campers use metal frames. As long as the cargo is within the load capacity, it is safe. The fabric is typically Oxford cloth, with common specifications including 600D, 420D, 400D, and 300D. The higher the number, the coarser the yarn used, making the fabric thicker and more durable, though with a slightly rougher surface.

5. Wheels

Spinner wheels are standard, and campers generally have them. Brakes are also standard. Camper vans typically have 7-inch wheels. Smaller camper vans use 5-inch wheels, while those with capacities over 200L use 8-inch wheels. Wider wheels provide a smoother ride.

6. Storage

The folding size is key. A smaller folding size makes it easier to store in a trunk or in a closet at home.
