What's the right price to buy a used RV? What should you pay attention to?

September-30th-2025

If you're looking to buy a used RV, it's usually because you want to spend less and get a great value. Since the RV market is just getting started in China, there are fewer vehicles on the market, and even fewer used vehicles available. At the same time, there aren't any dedicated platforms in China for used RVs, so I see this as an opportunity. I'm curious what everyone thinks. During this pandemic, I created a used RV platform at home, allowing enthusiasts to register and post information about buying used RVs. I wonder what the future holds? Interested friends can get in touch to discuss this. But let's get back to the topic of how to buy the right used RV. What should you pay attention to when buying an RV?

What kind of RV is suitable for buying? First of all, you need to understand RVs. However, many people do not understand RVs, and they are easily deceived. How to deal with RVs that do not understand? I personally recommend consulting a car enthusiast. Tell him the model you want to buy and let him explain it to you. What is the RV like? If you have any questions,

The most common used RVs on the market are self-propelled RVs. After all, RVs are still considered a luxury in China, requiring both time and money. Most RV owners in China are retirees, whose age makes towing an RV impractical. Furthermore, misconceptions that towing an RV requires a Class A license and is illegal contribute to the lower sales and ownership of trailer RVs compared to self-propelled RVs, making it difficult to find a suitable used trailer. This requires more RV owners to promote the fact that it is legal to tow a car with a Class C1 license, so there's no need to worry.

If you are interested in second-hand RVs, you will find that many RVs are new and are changed hands one after another. You should pay special attention to these cars. They will not be sold unless there is a problem. Remember, there is only a loss when buying, not a loss when selling.

If you want to buy a used RV, you need to know why they sell it. The most common reasons for selling are as follows:

1. There are quality problems. The most common ones are that the indoor air does not meet the standards, unqualified materials are used, there are problems with the design, and some cars cannot be driven fast; the sound insulation is poor, and the insulation materials are of low quality, making it uncomfortable to live in.

2. RV life is not as good as imagined, it mainly depends on the level of adaptability.

3. Economic problems.

4. Time issues.

When buying an RV, ask yourself: Will the above problems arise after you get it home? The first one is the most frightening, and it's easy to fall into a trap if you don't understand RVs. The solution is to ask fellow RVers, as they have no conflict of interest and will speak their minds. The last three questions are up to you.

Since there are so few RVs on the market, what's a reasonable price to pay for a used RV? My conclusion is to avoid discounts exceeding 30%. The reason for this is that RV prices have dropped significantly, and dealers are offering discounts of 50% or even lower. I've encountered this many times: RVs come with a 500,000 RMB deposit, but the dealer only offers 200,000 RMB. Dealers are risky, and unlike cars, they're not as easy to sell. They're slow to sell, and they have to deal with repairs, which is risky. After they're bought back, they only sell for around 30 RMB. Above 30 RMB, no one will buy them. A top-tier brand is better, but the biggest concern is newer, smaller manufacturers, who won't even take them at 50% off.

Never buy a used RV at a discount of more than 20% of the market price. If the discount exceeds this, it is better to buy a new one. After all, many used RVs do not have warranties, and you don’t know what problems may occur in the middle.

Finally, I would like to remind you that:

First, before buying a used RV, you must understand the price of a new car. In the past two years, the price of RVs has dropped significantly, and you may end up buying a used RV at the price of a new car.

Second, try to buy RVs that have a large number of units on the market, such as Great Wall, Zhongtian, etc. among self-propelled RVs.

Third, if you can buy a new car at the price of a used RV, try to buy a new car.
